We got up early Saturday morning and headed an hour south to Carlsbad, CA. We didn't tell the kids where we were going; they would have harassed us endlessly about when that part of the trip would happen. A couple of friends and family almost spilled the beans, but luckily my kids don't pay much attention to what people say. When we packed up in the morning for the adventure, Tom told Leo we were going to Carlsbad to find out if it was really bad or maybe it was "Carlsgood". Leo clued in when we got off the freeway and started seeing the signs with the familiar word "Lego".
Here are my good sports Tom and Nana with the kids before going into the park. There was rain in the forecast, so it wasn't very crowded.
Did I mention Nana was a good sport? Here she is on the first ride of the day.
The kids were just the right age for Legoland. They were tall enough to ride everything, but young enough to be enchanted by the place. It is pretty amazing. Check out this Lego dragon.
Leo was a happy guy.
Serafina wasn't a very good driver, but she had fun.
Here's the thing...it did end up raining. Most of the time it was just a drizzle. Around lunch time it started to come down a little more, so we went inside for some food. Right outside the restaurant, there was a spinning ride. Tom took them on it after we ate. The kids didn't vomit, but as soon as the ride began, the rain turned into a torrential downpour. Hardest it rain all day. Probably the hardest it's rained in Southern California in a long time.
It didn't stop the fun. I put some dry pants on Serafina and we pressed on. You can check out more pictures here.
