Wide Awake

Leo has been wide awake almost all day. I know he's tired but he doesn't sleep for more than a few minutes at a time. He did the same thing on Monday. I think he's too interested in the world around him to close his eyes. Hopefully that means he'll sleep well tonight. His alert state made for a great visit to see Santa. I'll have Tom scan the picture at work on Monday. He's taking tomorrow off to spend time with his mom.

Xmas pic attempt

Tom's mom Ruth arrived today and she's giving Leo lots of grandma love. I'm very happy to have help again since I'm still pretty achy from surgery and have to drive into the city for a follow-up doctor's appointment.


The other night we tried to get the ultimate pic of Leo for our Christmas card. I dressed him in his "Baby's First Christmas" onesie and shook his favorite toy, but we didn't get a great pic. The big news is Leo sat up in his baby positioner seat, which is intended for a three month old. I'm pretty impressed and I just thought I'd brag about my little man.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable day. I'm recovering well from surgery, but I'm not suppose to lift anything. Thank god my mom is here to help, but she leaves tomorrow. My best friend Tracy and her husband Pedja are visiting. The vegetarians outnumbered the meat eaters this year so we had lasagna instead of turkey. Very yummy.

Surgery

I'm having my spinal cord stimulator repaired today. My mom is here to help. It's an outpatient procedure, but I'm still anxious about being away from Leo.

I'm going to miss my little man...
but he's in good hands.

Polka dot onesie

Like all expectant mothers, I bought various items of clothing in anticipation of my baby's arrival. This polka dot onesie was a cheap Target buy, but it struck me as especially cute because of the print and how very tiny it is. I loved visualizing my son in it. When he was born and for the week or so after, he was so tiny that the onesie was big and baggy on him. Recently it became a perfect fit, and now it is too small. As I'm sure all parents will tell you, seeing your baby get bigger is bittersweet. I'm so excited to see Leo developing--smiling, holding his head up, recognizing our voices. But at the same time, he'll never be this tiny again.

Always learning

Today we learned never to leave the house without an extra diaper and a change of clothes, even if it is just a quick walk to the park for some fresh air (I have these items in the diaper bag, but did not bring the bag). Poor Leo arrived at the park soaked through. Tom fashioned a toga out of his receiving blanket and we used our canvas sling as a blanket.

Leo tolerated the arrangement for a while, but then got fed up.

Adios Ito

Sorry for the delay in posting. We've been doing well. My dad wrapped up his visit today and headed home. He was a great help, especially since it was Orcale OpenWorld this week and Tom had some late night events to attend. Leo was very fussy last night and it was either gas or missing his dad.

We had probably our biggest outing yet to see this exhibit. I wore Leo in the moby wrap and he was protected from cooties and slept the whole time.

Getting older

Leo will be a month old tomorrow. It's feels like he just got here and he's always been here at the same time. It's been such an amazing time for all of us. So many changes. For example, I'm no longer squeamish about poop, pee or spit up (I slept in a wet puddle of spit up yesterday). I'm in total awe of Tom as a dad. I knew he'd be good at it, but he's really amazing. And Leo... well, he's just the sweetest kid ever.

Baby's first hike

We're having some great weather, so we decided to go out and have our first hike as a family. Here's Tom on the trail with Leo in the Baby Bjorn. This was a gift from Tracy and Pedja, and Tom raved about how comfortable it is.

We didn't get to the end of the trail because I was a too hot and tired. But, come on, I just pushed out a baby.

Note that the burp cloth is tucked under my chin, even though I'm not the one who spits up after every time I eat.

Thrush

Leo and I have thrush, which is a yeast infection that lives in his mouth and on my nipples. (And, based on my google search, it is also a type of song bird and a metal band.) Currently, breastfeeding is very painful, but don't worry, Leo is getting plenty to eat. He's up a full pound since his two week appointment.
