Stomach bug

Leo came down with a stomach bug last night. He had a fever and diarrhea. I felt so bad that he felt bad. But he's doing much better today. The irony is as much as I worry about Leo being exposed to germs, it was Leo who was the cootie monster during our play date Tuesday morning. I emailed the other moms to let them know the situation. Hopefully, we'll still be invited to the next outing.

Nana's visit

My mom spent the weekend with us and was thoroughly charmed by Leo. She was very impressed but how big he is and how much he drools. As always, she was amazing help--doing laundry, allowing me to nap and babysitting while Tom and I had a little date. Leo wasn't happy the entire time she was here, but apparently his fussiness is nothing compared to what I put her and my dad through.
She also brought Leo this very cool book for Christmas. Tom read a little of it to him this evening.

Play date

We've been having some very wet weather, so no stroller walks. But Tom took advantage of the snow in Tahoe and took a day trip to ski. I hunkered down at home and we had Cara and Addison visit. Here are the babes hanging out.

Later, Leo fell asleep on my chest. I needed to get myself some dinner so I decided to put him in the wrap just how he was. I know he looks like he's about to fall out and is uncomfortable, but he was secure and it allowed me to use both my hands for a bit. This was a modified version of what the website called the "kangaroo carry".

Charlie Brown

Leo has an amazingly round head. Not unlike Charlie Brown.

We find this extra remarkable because Leo spent two hours in the birth canal, needed vacuum assistance and started life looking like this.

But now, he's our round-headed, Charlie Brown-like kid. We love to rub his noggin. Here are some pics from this weekend that highlight his perfect melon. (Also note his major balding)

Pretty Purple Seat

Leo has been getting out and making friends. Today we had our first visit with a local moms' group at the mall. He really likes looking at other babies. He often gets to see his friend Addison and last weekend, he tried out her Bumbo seat. Once again, his head is held up by his seriously fat neck. He still looks cute though.

The Crib

We transitioned Leo into his crib this weekend and it has not been very smooth. He use to be in the co-sleeper which attached to the side of our mattress.

Here is my cat, Bug, demonstrating (don't worry, we cleaned all the bedding after his furry butt contaminated Leo's space). I'm not sure if he misses the sounds of Tom snoring or maybe the smell of his mom right next to him, but he hasn't been a very happy boy in the crib.

Here he is, looking like an angel, but don't let him fool you.


(I know he looks like a wee-little thing in a big sparse crib, but the research on SIDS tells us it is unsafe to have loose blankets, pillows or stuffed animals in the crib. When he's no longer at risk for SIDS, I have a feeling he'll be bringing lots of cuddly friends to bed with him.)

A very special gift

My dear friend Heidi is a very talented artist and she came to visit on Wednesday. She was happy to meet Leo.
She brought Leo this mama and baby monkeys, which served as the inspiration...
for this painting. It's even more amazing in person. I can't wait to hang it in Leo's room. I doubt many other three-month-old babies own original art work.

Moobs

No wonder my back and shoulders hurt. I've been carrying around a 14 pound baby! Today, Leo weighed in at 14.5 (in clothes and a diaper) on an empty stomach and 14.12 after a feeding.

He's so pudgy; he's got man boobs...moobs!



He can't resist a delicious monkey rattle. Also, it is Leo's three month birthday. I can't believe it has already been three months. We're loving every minute.

Ride 'em cowboy

Tom enjoys making Leo "ride" on various objects. No harm ever comes to Leo and Tom finds it so entertaining that I usually don't interfere.
Here's Leo "riding" Billie when he's just a few weeks old. More recently, Tom had Leo "ride" the giraffe in his bedroom.

I know he's looking at me like, "mom, put down the camera and rescue me" but he's okay and he needs to learn to tolerate his father's whims since it isn't going to get any better as he gets older. Finally, here he is riding something he's suppose to...the new stroller. I did a lot of research and we checked out a lot of strollers at various stores to find the perfect one, and so far, Leo hates it.

About one week old

Just under 12 weeks old.

Big difference, huh? I said to Tom last night "it looks like the second baby ate that first baby."

Happy New Year

Today we got a video camera (thanks Joe and Carrie for the awesome Xmas present). It will take a little while to figure it all out and get the right software, but eventually we plan to put some video on the blog so you can see Leo in action.
