Winter Break Ski Trip

In all our prior ski seasons, we've never had access to our ski house before January 1st.  This year since our housemates bought a house and we are renting from them instead of a third party, we were able to go to Tahoe between Christmas and New Years.  We left on Wednesday the 26th and it was an absolute miserable drive.  Hopefully the rest of our trips are a lot easier.

Thursday was very cold, but these brave skiers headed out anyway.  I dropped them off at the lift.

Then I met them for lunch.

And then they headed out again for more skiing.

That night we played Googly Eyes with our housemates.  Here's Carlo, Leo, Nico and Serafina.

On Friday, I met up with Serafina after my yoga class.  She took a little break while her brother and dad did a few challenging runs.  When it was time to meet up again, she was ready to conquer.

Friday night we drove to King's Beach to meet up with our friends the Prieshoffs for dinner.  Here's Serafina and Leo with Riley, Paige and Addison.
One more picture, this time with Andrew.
Saturday was Carlo's birthday.  He chose to skip ski team practice so he could sleep in a little and ski with Leo.  We had the nicest weather so far and I walked the 1.5 miles from the house to Squaw Village to take an Aerial Yoga class.  Here's the yoga room set up with hammocks.  It was really fun and challenging.  I look forward to doing it again on our next visit to Tahoe.
To celebrate Carlo's birthday, we went disco tubing.  There was a DJ and laser lights on the mountain.

It was super fun and super cold.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all three of my blog readers!  We had a great Christmas.  It was fun and relaxing.
Serafina was really excited to get old school roller skates.
Leo really, REALLY wanted a Virtual Reality (VR) headset to go with his gaming system.  He wasn't sure if he was going to get it, so he was extra thrilled to unwrap it this morning.
 The skates fit perfectly.
The headgear for skiing fit well too.  Those will keep them nice and warm on the mountain.
Serafina made us this adorable homemade ornament with her fingerprints.
I spent almost the entire day in my pajamas.  I also spent almost all of yesterday in pajamas as well.  And that is the best Christmas present I could ever ask for.
Leo spent most of the day like this.

He didn't care about his surroundings so he ended up sitting on his sister.
Nana got them matching Meow Wolf beanies.
Mid-day Serafina geared up to try out the skates.
Nana was over and gave her some help.

The best place to practice is at the cement rink at our local park.

She got better the more she tried and was able to skate without help.

We headed home and had a relaxing rest of the day.  I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday.  We are heading to Tahoe tomorrow.  We've never spent time in Tahoe during this time of year and I'm interested to find out if it will be crowded.  Either way, it should be fun and the weather pretty mild.

Christmas Eve

I didn't take many pictures today because we were busy cooking and eating.  I worked on perfecting these Mexican Wedding Cookies.

This batch turned out pretty good.
Of course we had to make the butter cookies for Santa that we make every year.

Tom made lots of delicious food and we ate ourselves silly.  My mom was here to enjoy the meal with us.  Before bed, I let them open a present.  Leo got some cozy pajama pants with gingerbread men on them.  Serafina got this llama onesie.  It's pretty ridiculous but she had her heart set on it.  She was very thrilled and very fuzzy.

Pre-Christmas Dinner

The past two Christmases, our friends the Smiths have come over on Christmas Day for dinner.  Jeremy's parents flew in tonight for the holiday so they aren't available on Christmas Day.  We had dinner with them tonight instead.

Halle was still sleepy after waking up from a nap and Leo took her picture.
There was a ridiculous amount of food but we still had to have dessert.  I made a sheet pan sugar cookie that was more like a cookie bar.  I put a cream cheese frosting on top and the kids were allowed to decorate them with sprinkles.

Group photo before we wrapped up the night.

Holiday Fun

Today was Serafina's last day of school before the holiday break.  She bought this ugly Christmas sweater with the flippy sequins with her allowance money.

Her teacher posted some pictures of the class's holiday activities on the classroom app.

This afternoon we worked on a gingerbread house.

Santa Maynard

Yesterday, Leo and I went to help the preschool teachers make graham cracker gingerbread houses for their classes.  I wasn't sure if Leo would want to do it right after he had made houses in the kindergarten class, but he was game.  On our way in, we ran into my favorite Santa, Santa Maynard!

Today we went to preschool specifically to see Santa Maynard.  It's one of my favorite holiday traditions and I've visited him every year since started the Santa gig.  I'm glad Leo was able to join me.  He really enjoyed seeing the preschool kids react to Santa.
Of course I had to get my annual picture with Maynard and his daughter, Kristi.
