Mind the gap

 Leo lost his other front tooth this morning.  It was barely hanging on and made it impossible to eat breakfast so Leo asked his dad to take care of it.

I can't believe he has such a giant gap in the front of his mouth.  There is no sign of any new teeth coming in either.  I guess we are just going to have to get used to his new look.  

The tooth he lost is the one he chipped a few days before Serafina was born.  He did a face plant out the back door and apparently I didn't blog about it because I couldn't find any mention of the event. 

 Leo squeaked in on the tooth chart for January, which was a busy month for lost teeth in room 6.

A sail boat on the 100th day with leg warmers

Serafina has been learning about transportation at school.  They've covered buses, trains, light rail and more.  They also did a lesson on boats and she was assigned homework to make a sail boat.  Of course, Leo had to make one too.  

Here they are working on the boats over the weekend.  

She took it school today and she was very proud of it.

When I was helping in the classroom I saw some of the other boats the kids brought in.  Without throwing accusations around, I'm not sure the kids made these.

The kids did some hot air balloon art.

Leo celebrated 100 days at school but he didn't get a chance to share his 100 day collection yet.

I made Serafina some leg warmers and she wore them to dance class today.

Friday Dinner with Friends

Yesterday we had friends over for happy hour and dinner.  After school, the kids were very excited to have their friends arrive so we waited outside.  It was beautiful weather and they looked at their library books.

 The kids ate first.  Chicken nuggets and mac and cheese, of course.

 Then it was the grown-ups turn.  Follow Tom's detailed directions, I made sauce from scratch and assembled a baked ziti on Thursday morning.  I put together the salad on Friday morning, so all I had to do last night was bake the ziti in the oven.  It was the perfect meal to serve while I was hanging out with guests.

The ziti turned out delicious and Tom was impressed with it, which says a lot.

Pre-swim library visit

Thursday before swim class I gave Leo the choice of having "screen time" and going to the library.  He choice the library.  I was so thrilled I almost jumped out of my skin.  He picked out three Goosebumps books. 

Then we headed to swim class.  

Still waiting for that tooth to come in.  Not even a little hint of a new tooth yet.

Nature Walk

Everyone had the day off for MLK, Jr. but I was feeling under the weather so we just took an easy nature walk not too far from our house.

Serafina carpooled to school in the back of a Tesla on Friday.  

 I made her doll a dress.

 The yarn is not only ugly, but scratchy too.  The doll doesn't complain though.

 We played in the park with Max and Felix today.

Crazy hair, experiments, 100 days

Today was Crazy Hair Day at Serafina's school.  The school isn't that great with communication so I completely forgot until we got to our carpool buddy's house and her hair was sprayed orange.   Serafina started to get upset, but I found two ponytail holders on the floor of her buddy's car and gave her a quick crazy hairdo.  She was pleased with the result.  

 Too bad it wasn't Crazy Hair Day at Leo's school because he naturally rocks some crazy hair in the morning.  He didn't want me to take the picture so he tried to block it with his toothbrush.

 Leo has been doing some experiments after school.  Here he is seeing which will hold more coins - toilet paper or paper towel.

He had a lot of fun making this concoction.  

 I lost track of all the stuff he put in there, but he enjoyed it.

He also worked on his 100 day project.  The school celebrates the 100th day of school, which is coming up later this month, and he had to bring in 100 small items in a bottle.  The bottle was placed in a bag to keep it a secret.  He also had to write out three clues to go with his 100 items.  

Two years ago, he chose Q-tips.  Last year, it was buttons.  This year - marshmallows.  

 His clue sheet had to be placed in an envelope with his name on it.  He also added a self-portrait.

First ski trip of the season

We had our first Tahoe trip of the season this past weekend.  It was made extra fun because Leo's school buddy came with us.  We are in a different house this season, but since we are weathered veterans of this process it doesn't really matter.

Here are Leo and Max ready for a day of the slopes.

Serafina was under the impression that she forgot how to ski and wanted to do the bunny hill to start the day.

Tom wasn't thrilled to go on the bunny slope, but he was a good sport to make his kids feel more comfortable.

Leo was grumpy because he wanted to ski with Max, but Max wasn't ready for the chair lift.  He needed some time to get used to skiing since he has only gone a couple times before.

After lunch, Tom bravely took both boys out to ski.  Max tends to overestimate his abilities and Tom had his hands full with Max.  Leo is a very independent skier.  

Serafina stayed in to play with Felix (Max's little brother) and show off her new ear-warming headband that I made her.  

We went on a walk.

And played in the snow.

Lina (the mom) and I took the little kids home early while Max and Leo skied on the bunny hill and Tom took a couple kid-free runs.  They passed out in the back of the car and it was really cute.

The kids all ate a good dinner.  My kids really wanted Max and Felix to stay in their room, but the boys weren't quite ready for that and stayed in their parents' room.

We did some more skiing on Sunday.  Leo stayed on the bunny hill with Max even though he told me later that it was pretty boring for him.  He wanted to keep his friend company though, so he did it anyway.  I was very proud of him for being a good friend.

Because the boys were skiing together, Serafina got to go out with her dad by herself.

Tom shot this video and you can see that all her skills are back in full force and she's tearing it up on the slopes.


After her ski session, she had a sledding session with Felix.  I happened to catch a pretty good wipe-out.

I also took this little video of our new ski house friends.  They'll be watching over us every visit.

We left later than I wanted to but that meant we got to see a great sunset on the road.
