New York Summer Trip - arrival day

Tom has been talking about visiting New York to see family for a while.  I may have subtly hinted that though the family would be happy to see him, they would be even happier to see the kids.  So he made the right decision to book a family trip to New York.  We scheduled it around other commitments (dive meet, start of school, etc.) and during the sweatiest time of year there.  We left on Saturday, July 27th and had a smooth flight.

The kids were excited to be there and both had activities on their New York to-do lists, but before we could do any of those, we had to hit one of Tom's most important to-dos.
So we hopped in a cab.
And went for pizza in Queens.
Not just any pizza...Rosa Pizza.
Leo has been there before.
After a long journey, it's nice to get to the hotel and unwind, clean up, whatever, but I was willing to make this detour first because honestly I think Rosa's is the best pizza too.
Serafina was a fan too.
We arrived at our hotel full of pizza and excitement.  We stayed at the historic New Yorker hotel - home to Nikola Tesla and the "Moonies" - which is conveniently located across the street from Penn Station. They've maintained the art deco design from when the building originally opened in 1930 and it's really cool looking inside.
After some resting, we needed to get out and explore.  The night was hot and the lights were bright.

We walked to Whole Foods to get some breakfast foods and there was some whining about making the walk back.  I knew how to solve that problem.

It's hard to whine with ice cream in your mouth.  That dipped cone from an ice cream truck was one of the culinary highlights of the trip for me.
