I joined Leo's kindergarten class on their first field trip today. There wasn't room on the bus for parents, so the kids just road with the teachers. I was fine with that. I've been on plenty of school buses with the preschool.
Loading up.
We headed to the community theater to see a production of The Frog Prince. The teacher suggested the kids dress up a little since it was an outing to the theater. There were lots of button-down shirts and frilly dresses.
Leo asked me to paint his nails last night. Here he is discussing his polish choice with Mia, Kunal and Ariana.
Waiting for the show to start with Rukiye. She had one of the most dazzling dresses of the day.
The kids enjoyed the show and everyone was well behaved. I was pretty miserable since I am not a fan of community theater...at all...whatsoever.

Kindergarten mailbox visit and Kembrie playdate
Leo's kindergarten class made valentines for relatives this week and today we walked to the mailbox to send them. Of course, the teacher had them make mailman hats. She seems to really be a fan of construction paper head gear.
They all look equally dorky in the hats.
On their way.
Some of the valentines were going really far. This one is headed to Japan.
The girl standing behind Leo is named Rukiye (pronouned Rue-key-ah). I think her family is from Turkey. She is a really sweet kid and one of the kindergarteners I look forward to hanging out with. Some of them drive me up the wall; she isn't one of those.
When I picked up Serafina from preschool, I also brought home her friend Kembrie. The girls had a playdate a Kembrie's house last week, so now it was my turn to host her.
They had so much fun playing together and Kembrie is extremely sweet and mellow. She's also the youngest of six kids, so maybe she has no choice but to be easy-going.

100 day headband
Leo's class made "100 day" headbands last week to celebrate the 100th day of school. I don't know why they didn't come home until today (the 106th day of school if my calculations are correct). His teacher is a bit of a perfectionist, so maybe she needed to do something particular to them before they could wear them home.
We went to a friend's house to play for a little while after school and Leo wore the headband the whole time. My friend asked why he still had it on. What can I say, he's a pretty big dork.
He kept it on even after we got home.

Serafina's Bowling field trip
Serafina's preschool class went bowling today. Leo did this same field trip and I was assigned to work it as well. I remember it being pretty miserable and Leo wasn't all that interested in bowling.
It was my work day today as well, but it went much better. It was hard to take pictures in the dim bowling alley.

The videos are dark too, but you can see a little of her technique and enthusiasm.
She didn't have the highest score, but I think she may have had the most fun. The "T" on this list is for Trey and that kid was rocking it.
We spent a little time at the park after school today, but it was chilly so I wimped out pretty quickly.

Sassy Serafina
She has also been battling a cold for a number of days and today she was feeling a little tired at times, so she relaxed on the couch.
She also ran around like a lunatic when she wasn't resting.

Valentine creation
We've got a little time before Valentine's Day, but I wanted to be on top of the situation so we finished them up this weekend when I could have Nana's help.
In the past, Leo has hand-made valentines for his classmates, but this year the class has 30 kids and I'm not fully insane, so I just bought a box of Despicable Me cards with tiny tattoos included. The teacher sent home a list of names and he worked on it in three batches. Here's during the first batch. His handwriting still isn't great (possibly just a lefty problem), but he doesn't resist writing or complain nearly as much as he use to. It's so much better. Here's a picture of his first session of valentine writing. He finished them off this weekend.
Serafina's valentines are a little more personal and cute. They were also mostly my project so I made sure she was involved somehow. Instead of buying colored card stock, I had her paint some white card stock I already had.
I then attached the "Crazy For You" labels and stuck them on crazy straws. Get it?
The end result is pretty cute and I think the kids will like them.

Superbowl Sunday
Nana was here this weekend. She had a pretty epic Monopoly game with Leo today. I was impressed by how long he paid attention to the game. Speaking of games, we watched (most) of the Superbowl, but it was a pretty boring game, with a boring halftime show and so-so commercials.
Leo found the biggest chip in the bowl, which was the highlight.
Later on, he had a meltdown at dinner and I taught him the healing powers of a hot shower. He stood under the water, calmed down and came out a new kid. I told him that there is very little that can't be solved by a hot shower.
