Last game of Fall Baseball

Well, it hasn't exactly been a smooth baseball season.  Moving to the next division up posed challenges, like kid pitchers.  Not having our usual coach wasn't great either.  Leo and I were not fans of the replacement coach.  Leo struggled to pay attention in the field and make contact with the ball while batting.  He also had a few meltdowns.

He didn't want to play today but since it was the last game of the season, I gave him a pep talk and he got out there.  And then he had an amazing first inning.  He made two good plays at 3rd base, one resulting in an out, and then he hit an RBI (run batted in).  The whole team was playing well today.  He even played catcher, which he hasn't done yet this season.

He also got the ball in play every time he was up to bat.

And then...he had a meltdown.  In the final inning, he accidentally overran third base and got tagged out.  He burst into tears in the dugout and I had to take him aside and calm him down.  The team went on to score enough runs to win the game.  Leo didn't pull it together in time to do the team cheer, but managed to get in the group photo.

After the game was the end-of-the-season team party.  The coach brought all the kids up to present them with a special baseball and say what they learned this season and a favorite moment from the season.  Leo said he learned how to shuffle before throwing the ball and his favorite moment was dancing in the outfield.  Oh lordy.
